On Your Mark…

Dash for Trash is a fun, friendly, and good-for-the-islands, month-long competition among Adopt-A-Highway groups in Maui Nui to help celebrate Earth Month 2025.

This year, we’re making the competition fairer for everyone by adjusting the scoring to make sure our smaller groups have a chance to win, too! The winning group will get the coveted Dash for Trash trophy and a fun prize for all your volunteers!

The Dash for Trash winner will be the Adopt-A-Highway team that collects the most trash per person during the competition period!

Here’s how you can Dash for Trash:

…Get Set…

  • Conduct one or more Adopt-A-Highway cleanups during April 2025.
  • Just for the month of April, you have the option to choose any Adopt-A-Highway segment to clean. If you’d like to help out another segment that may need a little extra TLC, please indicate which one when you submit your Event & Supply Request form.
  • We know that local weather conditions and traffic patterns affect trash loads on some highway segments more than others. As such we have indicated the segments that historically accumulate the most trash on our ‘Trashiest Segments’ map. To view the map, click here.
  • Be sure to submit both your pre- and post-cleanup forms in a timely manner and submit a cleanup photo. Completed forms and photos will help determine the Dash for Trash winner.
Schedule an Event and Request Supplies

  • For all cleanup events, always be sure to adhere all Adopt-A-Highway safety practices including wearing appropriate clothing and safety gear, and staying out of driving lanes and private property.
  • During your cleanup, take a photo of your volunteers and filled orange Adopt-A-Highway trash bags and upload them to your cleanup report or email it to us at stormwatermaui@gmail.com. We’d like to share it on our Stormwater Maui website and social media.
  • Check out our Instagram page @stormwatermaui for Dash for Trash updates throughout April.
  • In May, we’ll notify the winning group and send them our fun prizes!
