In partnership with AASHTO and STEMworks, HDOT Highways Maui District hosted a statewide Bridge Builder Training on October 14th. Five teachers from across the state participated in the session, where they were introduced to our AASHTO Bridge Building Module—a hands-on curriculum that engages students in engineering and bridge design concepts.
During the training, educators learned practical strategies for guiding their students through the bridge-building process, from planning and design to testing and problem-solving. The session emphasized teamwork, critical thinking, and creativity, giving teachers the tools to make engineering concepts approachable and engaging in the classroom.
This training was held in preparation for the upcoming Bridge Builder Competition with STEMworks, where students will put their newly learned skills to the test. We’re excited to see how these educators will inspire their students to think like engineers, tackle design challenges, and experience the satisfaction of building bridges that actually work.
