2024 Dash for Trash Maui Nui Winner: Bayer Crop Science

Congratulations to Bayer Crop Science – Maui for winning the 2024 Dash for Trash Maui Nui competition by collecting an impressive 150 bags of trash!

Since 2019, Bayer Maui has been a steadfast participant in the Adopt-A-Highway Program, taking responsibility for milepost 4-6.4 along Puunene Avenue and Mokulele Hwy. Their annual cleanups have become a beacon of community involvement, consistently drawing in 40-100 volunteers each time and resulting in an impressive average of 100-200 bags collected per cleanup. A big thank you is owed to the Bayer Crop Science team for their dedication and efforts in making Maui Nui a cleaner and more beautiful place for all to enjoy.

We also extend our gratitude to all the groups who joined us for an unforgettable Dash for Trash Maui Nui experience! With nearly 250 volunteers and more than 350 bags of trash cleared from our highways, we want to express our appreciation to every participant who devoted their time and effort to making Maui Nui cleaner and greener. Your contributions are invaluable, and our islands are glowing even more brightly thanks to your dedication!

UHMC Earth Day Celebration

Continuing the Earth Day festivities, the Highways Maui District, in collaboration with the County of Maui, hosted a booth centered on stormwater management at the University of Hawaii Maui College’s (UHMC) Earth Day event. Organized by UHMC’s Student ʻOhana for Sustainability club, the annual Earth Day celebration unfolded on the campus Great Lawn. This free event featured live performances, guest speakers, and outreach booths from local nonprofits and government agencies. Attendees also enjoyed giant yard games and delicious food from the Pastele House food truck. We enjoyed interacting with community members, and discussing stormwater best management practices. A big Mahalo to UHMC’s SOS Club for having us!

Maui Ocean Center Earth Night Activity Booth

Highways Maui District brought the storm….water management booth to Maui Ocean Center’s Earth Night event! The family-friendly occasion featured various educational activity booths presented by Maui Ocean Center’s community partners. We engaged with community members and used our hands-on Stormwater Model to demonstrate stormwater runoff. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with the community and raise awareness about responsible stormwater management practices.
